Ο σεισμός των 8,9 ρίχτερ και το τσουνάμι προκάλεσαν μεγάλες καταστροφές και ανθρώπινες απώλειες στην Ιαπωνία. Προσευχόμαστε για όλο τον Ιαπωνικό λαό και τους αδελφούς μας Ορθόδοξους Χριστιανούς της Ιαπωνίας. Οι νεκροί και οι αγνοούμενοι ξεπερνούν, πλέον, τους 1400 και σημειώθηκε έκρηξη σε πυρηνικό εργοστάσιο με αύξηση της ραδιενέργειας κάτα 20 φορές !
Ας τρέξουμε στους Ορθόδοξους ναούς, όλη τη Σαρακοστή μέχρι την Ανάσταση και το Άγιο Πάσχα, ας νηστεύσουμε, ας εξομολογηθούμε, ας κοινωνήσουμε των Αχράντων Μυστηρίων, ας προσφέρουμε σε ΕΡΓΑ ΑΓΑΠΗΣ και ΦΙΛΑΝΘΡΩΠΙΑΣ, ας μονοιάσουμε με ΟΛΟΥΣ, ας προσευχηθούμε στο Τριαδικό Θεό να σώσει την ανθρωπότητα από δεινά και συμφορές, υλικές και πνευματικές, να χαρίσει μετάνοια και αιώνια ζωή ( Ιωαν, 6:40-60 ) στην ανθρωπότητα, να μας αξιώσει να γίνουμε μέλη της Βασιλεία των Ουρανών.
Οι σεισμοί και τα φυσικά φαινόμενα φανερώνουν πόσο απρόβλεπτα αλλάζει η ζωή του ανθρώπου και ότι πρέπει να είμαστε πάντα έτοιμοι για το ταξίδι για τη Βασιλεία των Ουρανών. Ας μην αφήσουμε και αυτή τη Σαρακοστή να περάσει, χωρίς μετάνοια-εξομολόγηση, χωρίς Θεία Κοινωνία, χωρίς Χαιρετισμούς στη Παναγία, χωρίς τακτικό εκκλησιασμό ( Κυριακή- προηγιασμένες ), χωρίς έργα αγάπης για τους αδελφούς μας.

IOCC Stands Ready to Offer Aid Following Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan
Baltimore, MD (IOCC) — International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) has assembled its emergency response personnel to assess the humanitarian needs and possible response to a massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake that struck the Pacific Ocean nearby Northeastern Japan on March 11. Initial reports indicate that hundreds of people perished in a powerful tsunami and that the quake caused damage with blackouts and fire. The large earthquake triggered a tsunami warning for countries all around the Pacific Ocean ranging from Russia to Hawaii to South America.
IOCC, in consultation with local Orthodox and ecumenical partners in Japan and other countries affected in the Pacific, is assessing the current situation and the need for a potential response.
«We mourn the loss of life and pray for those who were taken so suddenly by this disaster,» said Constantine M. Triantafilou, IOCC executive director. “We are all keenly aware of the devastation that can be caused by powerful tsunamis and are deeply concerned for those who have been affected by this tragedy. Our staff is ready to respond with our partners to offer assistance where it is needed.»
IOCC is the official humanitarian aid agency of the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas (SCOBA) and a member of the ACT Alliance, a global coalition of churches and agencies engaged in development, humanitarian assistance and advocacy.

Vladika Seraphim of Sendai called Tokyo office by his cell phone and said that the cathedral in Sendai is safe, but he cannot contact with parishioners or recognize situation and damage of his territory, as telephone and electricity stopped. There are many small churches and chapels there and many brothers and sisters. Fr. Vasili is old and sick, living near coast….
In Tokyo, Fr. John says in the St Nicholas Cathedral [Nikolaido], damage is not so big, some lampada glass and other items were broken. Still aftershock shaking continues.

Faithful asked for support in wake of Japanese quake, tsunami
SYOSSET, NY [OCA] — In the wake of the massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck Japan on March 11, 2011, the hierarchs, clergy and faithful of the Orthodox Church in America are being asked to remember in prayer all those affected by the disaster and to support efforts undertaken by International Orthodox Christian Charities [IOCC], which has assembled its emergency response team to assess needs and possible responses.
«The devastation being experienced in Japan is numbing, and it is only appropriate that we respond in kind with our prayers for the suffering and departed and support for any and all humanitarian efforts,» said His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah. «Not only has the earthquake — the strongest in Japan’s recorded history — caused incalculable damage, but the tsunami it released and the attendant destruction of much of the nation’s infrastructure are almost beyond comprehension. In addition to our prayers, our support of IOCC’s efforts are crucial at this time.»
Nothing has been reported with regard to how the earthquake may have affected the Orthodox Church in Japan, although it is assumed that the faithful in Sendai, the northern Japanese city that was at the epicenter of the quake and tsunami, are suffering tremendously. [His Grace, Bishop Seraphim (Sigrist), a retired OCA hierarch, served as Bishop of Sendai for 19 years.]
In Hawaii, one of many places across the Pacific on alert for possible tsunami activity, Priest John Schroedel, rector of the OCA’s Saint Juvenaly Mission, Kona, reported on Friday that the state had been spared, although many had heeded the call to evacuate shorelines.
