With the blessing of His Eminence Innocentios Byakatonda , the Metropolitan of Holy Orthodox Archdiocese of Burundi and Rwanda, our Church Community of Mount Fumbwe / Nyagasambu was started in January 2016.

Our pleisure to share with you today our activity to try cleaning and equipping our permanence house where we expect to be carrying out the allowed activity in respect to Church organization and government guidelines. Among these activities would be catechesis in small groups, Cooperatives of Saving and Credit and other organization of different activities of income generating.

ABOUT THE TRIPLE MISSION OF THE CHURCH AND ITS SOCIAL WORK / DIAKONIA.

There is a particular duty and mission of the Orthodox Church which concerns the only Orthodox faithful and catechumens, and the Social Activity of the Orthodox Church / diaconia from which may benefit the local society in general without exclusion.
The particular duty and mission of the Church is shared out into 3 main sectors according to the triple responsibility and mission of the Church as it is confided to the bishops, priests, and their collaborators each playing his / her role.

1. The duty of teaching, the doctrine or catechesis.
2. The mission to sanctify: i.e. by the Liturgy of the word and liturgy of the sacraments (mysteries).
3. The duty of the government or leadership and pasturing the people / flock of God.
   
   

Apart from this triple duty and mission which is exclusive for the faithful and eventually the catechumens, there is also the Church diaconia / social activity of the Church which may be divided into 4 or more main branches / projects according to the domains of participation of the Church to the social well-being:

1. The projects about the social Good Health.

2. The projects about Science and Education.

3. The projects about the Culture, Sports and Leisure.

4. The different projects about the common social development in general. These are reparted in the different areas of jobs for people to earn their lives.

As we ever remind, there is a serious need of an Action Plan in whatever activity of the Church, either in her triple duty and mission to teach, to sanctify, to govern and pasture or in her participation in the ordinary social well-being. There is a need of elaboration of Action Plan at each level: Communities, Parishes, Dioceses, Metropolises, Patriarchates.

The elaboration of an action plan is a very skilled exercise which involves a precise analysis of the situation of organization, a judicious choice of the objectives, and a clear definition of the strategies to use suited to the objectives true enough feasible.

This action plan is a work document which meets the needs of our Religious Based Organization; this action plan, when practiced, will be an essential tool to rationalize the different resources either human or material resources which we have at our disposal and to use them for more efficiency doubled with individual and joint efficacy.

ABOUT THE ORTHODOX COMMUNITY OF MOUNT FUMBWE / NYAGASAMBU

NYAGASAMBU locality includes 3 local government Sectors of RWAMAGANA District, Eastern Province. These Sectors are: FUMBWE, MUSHA, and GAHENGERI. The place is named after the famous ancient market located on the foot of MOUNT FUMBWE, at about 50 Kilometres from Kigali downtown, on the McAdam road Kigali –Rwamagana – Kayonza – Ngoma – Rusumo towards the Republic of Tanzania in East Rwanda.

Nyagasambu is a mountainous region, with many beautiful hills, good plateaux, beautiful plains and large valleys.

From the inauguration of a Greek Orthodox Mission in the area in early January 2016, We have made baptized about 150 people in 2 times and we have more 100 peple wishing to enter orthodoxy for they benefit from the Church pastoral, catechetical and liturgical services and its social activity.

Reader Timotheos Titus Twungubumwe is serving as a visiting missionary for pastoral, catechetical and liturgical needs of the starting orthodox mission. We praise the Lord that, after about 5 years from the starting of the community our people have the chance to benefit today from the catechism teachings by orthodox missionaries.

In consequence to the strict regulations of the Government of Rwanda regarding functioning of the religious based organisations, from March 2018, to no longer organize liturgical gathering where there are no adequate temples, the members of our community are exhorted to be making efforts to travel some 30 kilometres either to the Parish of Twelve Apostles / Rwamagana or Saint Catherine / Gishari while waiting to get ready their own place. For this intention to get our own place we are always praying and we kindly welcome support from our brothers and sisters from all over the world.

This big difficulty not to have our own place where to carry our missionary activity is also shared with almost other 15 parishes / communities which are also forbidden to organize liturgical gatherings at their places in Rwanda. We think also about them and pray for them to get rid of these problems. We are committed essentially to imitate the spirit of our spiritual father, His Eminence Innocentios Byakatonda, to endure these hard circumstances, to be «not characterized either by haste or anxiety, but to have absolute trust in the Lord of the vineyard», since «We are not the only passengers on the boat of our Church».

Through the prayers of our Holy Fathers, O Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

Avec la bénédiction de Son Eminence Innocentios Byakatonda, le Métropolite du Saint-Archidiocèse orthodoxe du Burundi et du Rwanda, notre communauté ecclésiale du Mont Fumbwe / Nyagasambu a été créée en Janvier 2016.

Nous sommes heureux de partager avec vous aujourd’hui notre activité pour essayer de nettoyer et d’équiper notre maison de permanence où nous prévoyons d’exercer l’activité autorisée dans le respect de l’organisation de l’Église et des directives du gouvernement. À PROPOS DE LA TRIPLE MISSION DE L’ÉGLISE ET DE SON TRAVAIL SOCIAL / DIAKONIA.
Il y a un devoir et une mission particuliers de l’Église orthodoxe qui concerne les seuls fidèles orthodoxes et catéchumènes, et l’activité sociale de l’Église orthodoxe / diaconie dont peut bénéficier la société locale en général sans exclusion.
Le devoir et la mission particuliers de l’Église se répartissent en 3 grands secteurs selon la triple responsabilité et mission de l’Église telle qu’elle est confiée aux évêques, aux prêtres et à leurs collaborateurs jouant chacun son rôle.

1. Le devoir d’enseigner, la doctrine ou la catéchèse.
2. La mission de sanctifier: c’est-à-dire par la liturgie de la parole et la liturgie des sacrements (mystères).
3. Le devoir du gouvernement ou de la direction et de faire paître le peuple / le troupeau de Dieu.

Outre ce triple devoir et mission qui est exclusif aux fidèles et éventuellement aux catéchumènes, il y a aussi la diaconie de l’Église / activité sociale de l’Église qui peut être divisée en 4 branches / projets principaux ou plus selon les domaines de participation de la Église au bien-être social:

1. Les projets sur la bonne santé sociale.
2. Les projets sur la science et l’éducation.
3. Les projets sur la culture, les sports et les loisirs.
4. Les différents projets sur le développement social commun en général. Celles-ci sont réparties dans les différents domaines d’emplois pour que les gens gagnent leur vie.

Comme nous le rappelons toujours, il y a un besoin sérieux d’un plan d’action dans n’importe quelle activité de l’Église, soit dans son triple devoir et mission d’enseigner, de sanctifier, de gouverner et de pâturer ou dans sa participation au bien-être social ordinaire. Il est nécessaire d’élaborer un plan d’action à chaque niveau: communautés, paroisses, diocèses, métropoles, patriarcats.

L’élaboration d’un plan d’action est un exercice très habile qui implique une analyse précise de la situation d’organisation, un choix judicieux des objectifs, et une définition claire des stratégies à utiliser adaptées aux objectifs véritablement réalisables.

Ce plan d’action est un document de travail qui répond aux besoins de notre organisation religieuse; ce plan d’action, lorsqu’il sera mis en pratique, sera un outil essentiel pour rationaliser les différentes ressources humaines ou matérielles dont nous disposons et les utiliser pour plus d’efficacité doublée d’une efficacité individuelle et conjointe.

À PROPOS DE LA COMMUNAUTÉ ORTHODOXE DU MONT FUMBWE / NYAGASAMBU

La localité de NYAGASAMBU comprend 3 Secteurs de gouvernement local du District de RWAMAGANA, Province de l’Est. Ces secteurs sont: FUMBWE, MUSHA et GAHENGERI. L’endroit porte le nom du célèbre marché antique situé au pied du MONT FUMBWE, à environ 50 kilomètres du centre-ville de Kigali, sur la route McAdam Kigali –Rwamagana – Kayonza – Ngoma – Rusumo en direction de la République de Tanzanie à l’est du Rwanda.

Nyagasambu est une région montagneuse, avec de nombreuses belles collines, de bons plateaux, de belles plaines et de grandes vallées.

Dès l’inauguration d’une mission grecque orthodoxe dans la région début Janvier 2016, nous avons fait baptiser environ 150 personnes en 2 fois et nous avons plus de 100 personnes souhaitant entrer en orthodoxie car elles bénéficient des services pastoraux, catéchétiques et liturgiques de l’Église et de ses activité sociale.

Le lecteur Timotheos Titus Twungubumwe sert comme missionnaire en visite pour les besoins pastoraux, catéchétiques et liturgiques de la mission orthodoxe de départ. Nous louons le Seigneur qui, environ 5 ans après le début de la communauté, nos gens ont la chance de bénéficier aujourd’hui des enseignements du catéchisme des missionnaires orthodoxes.

En conséquence de la réglementation stricte du gouvernement Rwandais concernant le fonctionnement des organisations religieuses, à partir de Mars 2018, de ne plus organiser de rassemblement liturgique là où il n’y a pas de temples adéquats, les membres de notre communauté sont exhortés à faire des efforts pour se déplacer. 30 kilomètres soit de la paroisse des douze apôtres / Rwamagana ou de Sainte Catherine / Gishari en attendant de se préparer leur propre place. Pour cette intention d’avoir notre propre place, nous prions toujours et nous accueillons avec bonté le soutien de nos frères et sœurs du monde entier.

Cette grande difficulté de ne pas avoir notre propre lieu où porter notre activité missionnaire est également partagée avec presque 15 autres paroisses / communautés à qui il est également interdit d’organiser des rassemblements liturgiques chez eux au Rwanda. Nous pensons également à eux et prions pour qu’ils se débarrassent de ces problèmes.

Nous nous engageons essentiellement à imiter l’esprit de notre père spirituel, Son Eminence Innocentios Byakatonda, à endurer ces dures circonstances, à ne «se caractériser ni par la hâte ni par l’angoisse, mais à avoir une confiance absolue dans le Seigneur de la vigne», puisque » Nous ne sommes pas les seuls passagers sur le bateau de notre Église ».

Par les prières de nos Saints Pères, ô Seigneur Jésus-Christ notre Dieu, ayez pitié de nous et sauvez-nous. Amen.
