2009 Romania Healthcare

Location:   Cluj-Napoca, Romania
Dates:   1/6/2009 – 16/6/2009

Provide support to OCMC Missionary Floyd Frantz’s Recovery Program in Cluj, Romania, by leading and participating in discussion groups in Savadista and the St. Dimitri Program. Team members must be actively participating in any 12-step program of recovery, be familiar with basic recovery principles, and have at least one year of recovery. The ability to bring a focus of spirituality and faith in basic recovery is required.


2009 Albania Youth Work

Location:   Elbason, Albania

Assist OCMC missionaries and Albanian youth workers by offering a camp counselor training program. Team Members will teach camp counselors how to lead Bible study, teach arts and crafts, coordinate spiritual retreats, songs and games, and camp leadership. Help the camp ministry staff of the Church in Albania enhance their camping ministry, which runs over 40 camps a year. A background in camp ministry and youth work is requested.



2009 United States Construction ( Alaska )

Location:   Tyonek, United States

Discover Alaska’s unique Orthodox heritage by participating in an OCMC building and teaching team to Tyonek. Located on Upper Cook Inlet, the Orthodox community was established in 1891 in this Athabascan Indian village. Team members will work on the renovation of St. Nicholas Church, which was built in 1933. Team members will also offer basic catechism. Team members should be prepared to assist with construction and to share the Orthodox Faith.




2009 Uganda Healthcare

Location:   Gulu and Apac, Uganda
Dates:   22/06/2009 – 11/07/2009

Offer a holistic witness of the Orthodox Faith by ministering to the health care needs of individuals who have been affected by the civil strife in Northern Uganda. This Health Care Team will organize medical clinics, offer care and counseling, and minister to the physical needs of children and adults with malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea, tropical diseases and injuries. Doctors, dentists, nurses and Health Care providers are needed for this outreach.


2009 Romania Outreach

Location:   Cluj-Napoca, Romania

The Protection of the Theotokos Family Counseling Program in Cluj, Romania, was started by OCMC missionary Ancuta Frantz in 2005. It is actively engaged in counseling and material support for young mothers. A Mission Team will assist in an outreach program that will offer women’s spiritual retreats in different areas. Individuals with experience in various aspects of counseling, social work and leading women’s retreats are encouraged to apply.



2009 Guatemala Youth Work

Location:   Guatemala City, Guatemala
Dates:   01/07/2009 – 14/07/2009

Participate and offer a summer youth camp at the Hogar Rafael Ayau Orphanage in Guatemala City. Activities will include classroom instruction, games, sports, outings, «summer camp days.» Be prepared to «share the richness of our Orthodox heritage and tradition» with the children at the Hogar. All participants are called to be exemplary role models ready to bear witness to Christ through their every action. Spanish-speaking applicants are encouraged to apply (though Spanish is not required).


2009 Korea, South Youth Work

Location:   Chuncheon and Busan, Korea, South
Dates:   25/07/2009 – 11/08/2009

Russian Orthodox missionaries were first sent to Korea in 1897. Today, the growing Metropolis of Korea has invited a small Mission Team to participate in youth camps in Chuncheon and Busan, Korea. Team members will take part in two summer camps offered to Orthodox and non-Orthodox youth. The camps will focus on offering English immersion lessons to the youth in these communities. Experience in working with youth, ESL and youth camps is requested.


2009 Nigeria Teaching

Location:   Lagos, Nigeria
Dates:   27/07/2009 – 17/08/2009

In 1985, a collective of Nigerian churches were brought into the full canonical beauty of the Orthodox Church. In 2009, the first OCMC Orthodox Mission Team will travel to Lagos to teach in «new areas of mission,» where there are no resident priests, and to participate in evangelism, instruction and catechism to the surrounding communities within the Metropolis. Participants should be well-grounded in the basic teachings of the Church and have the ability to share and teach the Orthodox Faith.







2009 Tanzania Teaching

Location:   Bukoba, Tanzania
Dates:   27/07/2009 – 17/08/2009
Size:   8 Members
Cost:   $4,795.00 (from Jacksonville)



Since 2004, Teaching Teams to Tanzania have been offering seminars to church leaders in the Diocese of Bukoba. This Mission Team will participate in teaching seminars for young adults, Sunday school teachers and church leaders from the Metropolis of Mwanza. Members will have an opportunity to teach the Faith as part of the evangelism and outreach ministry of the Church. Team members should be prepared to share the Orthodox Faith.



2009 Zimbabwe Teaching

Location:   Harare, Zimbabwe
Dates:   22/08/2009 – 09/09/2009
Size:   6 Members
Cost:   $5,150.00 (from Jacksonville)



Orthodoxy has been present in Zimbabwe since the early 20th century. During the past fifteen years, the Orthodox Church has become active in the missionary field, committed to enhancing the quality of life of the local community and to bringing Zimbabwean people closer to the Faith. The first OCMC Mission Team to Zimbabwe will participate in teaching and outreach seminars. Teachers, Theologians and Nurses are encouraged to apply.
